چکیده

The high-energy, short-pulse carbon dioxide (CO2) laser became one of the mainstays of cosmetic resurfacing after its introduction in the late 1980s. Its popularity is related to its unparalleled ability to treat deep facial rhytides, furrows, fine lines, scars, photodamage, and textural irregularities. Although these findings are impressive, it also came with well-documented risks such as dyspigmentation, erythema, edema, infection, scarring, and significant downtimeFfrom weeks to even months.

Molecular effects of fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing on photodamaged human skin.

Objective To elucidate the sequential changes in protein expression that play a role in the clinically beneficial results seen with fractional carbon dioxide (CO(2)) laser resurfacing of the face and neck. Methods Nine healthy volunteers were recruited for participation from the senior author's facial plastic surgery practice. After informed consent was obtained, each volunteer underwent a 2-mm...

Hypertrophic scarring of the neck following ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing.

BACKGROUND Ablative fractional carbon dioxide (CO(2)) laser treatments have gained popularity due to their efficacy, shortened downtime, and decreased potential for scarring in comparison to traditional ablative CO(2) resurfacing. To date, scarring with fractional CO(2) lasers has not been reported. OBJECTIVE Five patients treated with the same fractional CO(2) laser technology for photodamag...

The spectrum of laser skin resurfacing: nonablative, fractional, and ablative laser resurfacing.

UNLABELLED The drive to attain cosmetic facial enhancement with minimal risk and rapid recovery has inspired the field of nonsurgical skin rejuvenation. Laser resurfacing was introduced in the 1980s with continuous wave carbon dioxide (CO(2)) lasers; however, because of a high rate of side effects, including scarring, short-pulse, high-peak power, and rapidly scanned, focused-beam CO(2) lasers ...

Single-pass carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing combined with cold-air cooling: efficacy and patient satisfaction of a prospective side-by-side study.

BACKGROUND Ablative skin resurfacing with carbon dioxide (CO(2)) and erbium:YAG lasers is still considered the gold standard for treating rhytides, photodamage, and acne scars. However, the prolonged downtime and undesired concomitant effects that are involved have sent dermatologists looking for less invasive nonablative laser techniques to rejuvenate skin. OBJECTIVE To combine cold-air cool...
